Wednesday, May 14, 2025
3:30 PM – 4:30 PM MST
Location: Cira C
This course will focus on how fire code officials can effectively manage large outdoor events and the preplanned response during an emergency. There are no specific codes that regulate outdoor events so most jurisdictions develop their own standards and expectations based on the size and complexity of the event. Some provide no regulations at all. Event promoters are eager to plan safe events and work with the local fire agencies where their events are held. This course will focus on 5 main areas:
Whether you are dealing with a concert in the park, 10K race, music festival, large sporting event or outdoor parade, they all have their unique hazards and concerns from a community risk perspective. It is important that the fire department be involved in the city planning team and set conditions that are appropriate and specific to the event that is being proposed. The instructors have extensive experience in managing large scale events such as the Rose Parade, College Football Games, MLS Soccer, Live Nation Concert Venues and Theme Park Special Events.
Learning Objectives:
Upon Completion, participant will be able to have informed discussions with event promoters to ensure that all community safety concerns are addressed prior to approval of large outdoor events.
Upon Completion, participant will be able to evaluate perceived crowd management and occupant load concerns, and respond appropriately during the pre-planning process, as well as addressing the operational concerns during the event.
